North Portland Garage and Studio

2012, July 11th

This small out-building was both designed and constructed by Mac-Bo. It’s functions are two-fold: one, to act as a garage for a small car, and two, to more frequently be used as a studio space. It shares a compact 50 foot wide lot with a 1000 square foot house, a fact that influenced its modest 10 foot by 20 foot dimensions.  Styled to match the existing house, it is clad in cedar shingles and clear cedar siding. Its most memorable aesthetic and functional features are its two glass garage doors. These serve as access to the driveway and, in the summer months, to the garden. When both doors are opened, breezes are unobstructed and so are the views into the lushly planted rear yard.
